1. Introduction to Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD)

Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) is the most costly disease of feed cattle.  Prevention of BRD tends to be more cost effective than treatment.  Producers can reduce the need for antibiotics with proper management.

Objectives

  1. Understand that preconditioning and other preventive management procedures can reduce the frequency of antibiotic treatments for BRD.
  2. Describe the components of a good preconditioning program and how BRD can be prevented in the feedlot.
  3. Understand that preventing BRD tends to cost less than clinical treatments with antibiotics.
