Intro: Equine Upper Respiratory Infections

Learning Objectives - By the end of this module, the student should be able to:

  • Understand the equine veterinarian’s role regarding the appropriate use of both prescription and over-the-counter antimicrobial agents.
  • Describe the consequences of inappropriate use of antimicrobial agents in horses.
  • Recognize clinical presentations in equine medicine where antimicrobial treatment is likely to be ineffective, and where alternatives to antimicrobial treatment should be employed.
  • Understand that an animal whose medical condition improves after treatment with an antimicrobial agent was not necessarily cured by that agent.
